Your Sports Therapy Appointments
When you first book your sports therapy appointment you will receive a confirmatory email that also has some important forms attached. These are things such as data protection and registration. If you want to save a few minutes of your appointment you can print them out, complete them and bring them with you. Don't worry if you do not, or cannot, however, as we have paper copies in clinic as well. |
,A full history of your condition will be taken, a review of your overall medical history and current medication made and your goals of treatment explored, before moving on to a physical examination. At this stage, it really is worth highlighting the importance of appropriate clothing. None of the professionals at Team Rehab uk will assess, or treat, through a piece of clothing. It's a bit like asking us to fix your car engine without opening the bonnet.
Please ensure that you wear clothing that allows us to access the site of your injury but also, and more importantly, makes you feel comfortable whilst doing so. We have towels in each room to offer extra privacy if needed. All of our staff are used to seeing people in various states of undress so we won't be uncomfortable, but that being said, inappropriately small or see through underwear, or buttonless boxers are not always the best choice. We are there to treat you, not date you, so we won't score you on your undergarments quality, only on functionality!
When we examine you we may ask you to move in certain directions to test ranges of motions through joints or the integrity and quality of the soft tissue around it. We will need to place our hands on you to be able to feel for any local scarred area, inflammation or other abnormal points of interest. Sometimes we will undertake what we call 'special tests', to look at an area in more detail. This may involve moving part of you through certain ranges or positions to load very specific structure up.
This thorough examination will be undertaken to determine the most appropriate diagnosis, and thus, the most appropriate treatment plan moving forwards. We always try to empathise and be a nice as possible but sometimes moving painful joints or areas can be painful so please do bear this in mind.
